Southeastern Integrated Care is opening a 24-hour behavioral health urgent care center in Lumberton on May 4, funded by $2 million from Trillium Health Resources and the NC Department of Health and Human Services, which will offer same-day crisis care, substance use assessments, and withdrawal management to anyone, including the uninsured, with the goal of diverting psychiatric patients away from overburdened emergency departments and jails.

In its fourth year, the Manistee Area Public Schools behavioral health team, comprising licensed therapists and behavior specialists embedded in every district building, has delivered over 2,700 individual therapy sessions, skill-building interventions, crisis supports, and group sessions so far this school year, funded through Michigan's state 31n mental health grant program.

Proposed by state Sen. Angela McKnight, the bill would require 911 operators to ask callers whether an emergency involves someone with an emotional or behavioral disorder and document those calls, aimed at better preparing first responders before they arrive, though mental health advocates have raised concerns about privacy and whether the measure goes far enough without coordinating with crisis intervention programs like ARRIVE Together.

The Queensland Government has permanently expanded its Youth Co-Responder Teams — now operating across all 15 police districts — by adding School Support and Child Safety Officers to strengthen the response to youth crime. The teams are designed to help at-risk youth and their families comply with bail conditions, reduce reoffending, and re-engage with education and the community.

Child Safety Officers are being piloted in three locations — Cairns, Caboolture, and Logan — where they will conduct risk assessments, analyse child protection information, and help return children in state care to their placements. Officials framed the expansion as both a community safety measure and an early intervention strategy, with Youth Justice Minister Laura Gerber saying the teams "not only target serious repeat offenders causing the most harm" but also deliver "critical early intervention to stop crime before it starts."

Santa Clara County's Trusted Response Urgent Support Team (TRUST) — a non-police mental health crisis program that receives more calls and achieves higher stabilization rates than any other county crisis response option — is facing a funding cliff when its state grant expires in November. A proposal by Gov. Gavin Newsom to make mobile crisis services an optional Medi-Cal benefit could reduce reimbursements to cover just 25% of TRUST's annual budget, down from 36% today, significantly narrowing the county's options for keeping the program alive.

The funding uncertainty is compounded by a standoff between Santa Clara County and the City of San Jose, which has long lagged on diverting 911 calls to non-police intervention teams despite repeated City Council directives to do so. Advocates warn that cutting TRUST would push communities back toward more expensive and more dangerous police-led responses, with one advisory board member calling it a default to "the more expensive, more dangerous option."
